The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty ★★★★☆

Max von Sydow holding his head in one hand and a rosary in the other
“You don't blame us for being here, do you?  After all, we have no place to go.  No home... Incidentally, what an excellent day for an exorcism...”

If the movie didn't scare you just read the book.  The movie is dated with plastic dummies and comedic amounts of split pea soup while your imagination is timeless.  What did stay with me during the reading was Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells - haunting.

I'd like to thank my fellow Horror Aficionados for choosing this classic as Februarys BOM and would advise all future readers to select the audio version!  The authors low gravely passionate voice was absolutely perfect for this dark tale. RIP William Peter Blatty.

If the ending hadn't been so abrupt I would give it five stars. The book doesn't give you a clue what happened!  The movie at least gives you a logical explanation as to why the demon(s) left their sweet honey piglet. I really really really hate those three words. Shudder.  Four freaked out stars.

  1. Great review! I gave this one four stars too. I thought the movie was scarier than the book, but the book was intriguing. :)
