The Spy Who Came in From the Cold by John LeCarré ★★★★☆

That was stone cold.  Damn Smiley, damn.  There are grey moments and then there’s this.   

After losing all his agents in West Germany, Alec Leamas is offered a chance at revenge - let yourself be recruited by the enemy.  Once in their clutches begin implicating that the Nazi Mundt, who by the way died in book one, is working for British intelligence.  

What could go wrong?
